Bistro 1855 runs the concept of
having a salad bar by day and wine bistro by night. The restaurant is the
inspiration of a partnership between Onion Restaurant and Bar Pte Ltd and our
sister company 1855 The Bottle Shop. While retaining the retail nature of 1855
the bottle shop, housing more than 1000 labels in their wine cellar, they have
also include a dining space that seats 218 both indoor and alfresco.
When night falls, bistro 1855 dish
out delectable tapas, mains and sharing platters. Starting with the bar bites,
Bistro 1855 Chicken Wings | $10 - chicken wings marinated with in-house garlic-soy
teriyaki glaze for 24hours before it is deep fried upon order to ensure that it
is crispy on the outside and real juicy on the inside. Somehow, the taste is
pretty comparable to a fast food restaurant chain.
Squid Ink Otak with Lobster | $14 - calls out to fans of
otak and lobster, this is one unique twist to the classic otak dish. A combination
of fish and lobster meat with a dash of squid ink for that savoury hint. I
would say it’s a bar bite not to be missed!
Crispy Pork Belly | $10 - roasted pork belly served with
tropical salsa. Pretty much the bomb as a tapas dish paired with wine or beer.
On the main menu, I would highly recommend Wagyu Rump Steak
| $32 - char-grilled 200gm wagyu steak, perfectly seared, slightly charred on
the outside and succulent inside, accompanied with red win jus, it is simply
superb. Served alongside with the highly addictive rustic fries and refreshing
side salad, this plate will definitely win your heart and palate.
Truffle Pizza | $26 - spread with blue cheese cream sauce, baby spinach with truffle salsa and egg. Blue cheese wasn't distinct so it's easy on the palate.
Dessert served was Fresh Turkish Figs, Manuka Honey Ricotta,
Berries with Pistachio Vanilla Crumb | $16 - not sure if this would satisfy as a dessert for me.
I would like to thank Bistro 1855 for hosting this tasting session and the PR for the warm hospitality. Perhaps hiccups from the tasting could be managed if the restaurant of the upper management are more willing to host such events. Just a piece of my thought.
