[CLOSED] Monochrome Fusion Bistro @ South Bridge Road, Singapore

Thursday, March 26, 2015

As the name of the bistro describes, the entire setting is in black and white. This casual dining concept brings out a very futuristic and classy atmosphere. Monochrome is walking distance from Tanjong Pagar Station, and is located beside Maxwell Market open car park / opposite Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. While focusing on their belief, less is more is reflected in the minimalist. They do not forget on achieving Yin & Yang balance for their dishes and the menu revolves around a cluster of cuisine, such as Thai, Western and Japanese.

Thai Sauce Coated House Wings [$9.80] - one of my speciality, which is also my favourite. Fried to its crispiness and tossed in Thai chilli and sesame seeds.

Monochrome B&W Chicken Meatballs [$9.80] - the chicken fillings gets a little too dry, therefore sauces are needed to compliment it.

Monochrome Aglio Olio [$18.80] - monochromatic spaghetti served with grilled prawns
In my opinion would be done better, or it could have been cold after our endless photo taking and seems to lack the pasta flavour.

Monochrome Squid Ink Risotto [$24] - squid ink risotto with pan-seared scallops, crunchy quinoa, parmesan cheese, edamame beans and alfalfa sprouts.
The risotto I had in mind was "wetter" than this. Nonetheless the scallops were fresh and tender, plus points!

Pan-seared Barramundi [$22.80] - pan-seared barramundi with asparagus, carrots and bechamel sauce.
Slightly inconsistent with the fish, as one was well prepared and the other has the fishy taste to it. Other than that, it tasted pretty decent.

Snapper Loin Cha Soba [$19.80] - pan-seared snapper loin with warm cha soba and miso broth.
I love Japanese food, and one thing I can't stand it soggy cha soba! This dish served came with an over-cooked soba and ruined the dish. The fish on the other hand, was fried to perfect texture.

Monochrome Seafood Platter [$25] - hand-crafted and battered in different styles, consisting of soft shell crab, snapper, calamari, shrimp and fries. A little to steep on the price for the amount of food served.

Black Velvet Cake [$8] - loving their unconventional flavours and you can only get it in Monochrome.

Cakes (clockwise): Black Velvet Cake, Rose Lychee Cake, Chendol Cake and Mint Chocolate Cake [$8 per slice]
Ice cream: Black Sesame, Dark Chocolate and Vanilla
My favourite pick is the Rose Lychee Cake and Black Sesame Ice Cream.

Sticky Date Pudding with Ice-cream [$9] - ice cream was served separately for this tasting. One of the better few in the area, if only it could be sticker. Oh the ice cream is definitely worth trying!

Check out their counter for new and up-coming flavours!

My favourite wall/corner in Monochrome :)

A big thank you to Ben and Monochrome for the invite and warm hospitality during the tasting.
Not forgetting the awesome bunch of love that I got to share it with.
