Carpenter And Cook @ Lorong Kilat, Singapore

Sunday, June 29, 2014

Travelled to Upper Bukit Timah for the unique vintage home store and artisan bakery café, literally Carpenter and Cook. To my surprise, it actually represent the three owners :) the 'and' is one who is interested in both carpenter and cook, and that is how the name came about.

They can be found alongside the stretch of eateries at Lorong Kilat. It may be a little inconvenient as there the nearest MRT stations are either Clementi or Bukit Batok, you will need to change to a bus after and walk a little bit, depending on the bus stop you are alighting. I alighted opposite Beauty World Plaza and walked for about 15 minutes.

Carpenter and Cook is not only a cafe, they also offer dessert tables, styling services, vintage props and decor for weddings, parties, photoshoots and many more!

Take note, the cafe is free seating thus you might have to share tables as they have long and big round tables.

Their signature vintage furnitures and baking deco along the walls.

Travel back in time to the 70s?

Among the savoury and sweets...

Staff recommendation: Passion Fruit Meringue Tart, Lemon Drizzle Loaf Cake and Banoffee Tart
(I wasn't having the sour feeling that day so I skipped it)

On the table, clockwise, (savoury) Mushroom Quiche [$7], (sweets) Sticky Toffee Walnut Brownie [$6.50] and Caramel Walnut Cheesecake [$7].

For me, the sweets were either too sweet like the cheesecake or dry for the brownie. You know it when you have to drink a slip of water after every bite.

Among the three dishes, my personal favourite was the oven baked Mushroom Quiche [$7], which comes in salad side. If you are finding something a bit more filling, try this! :)
If you are not into quiches, they serves sandwiches too.

Carpenter and Cook are doing so well that they now have a takeaway outlet, with no seating. For more information, visit them at their website.
