Hokkaido Sushi Restaurant - A La Carte Buffet @ M Hotel | Tanjong Pagar, Singapore

Friday, June 10, 2016

Hokkaido Sushi Restaurant is a hidden gem tucked in M Hotel, located at the corner of level 9 and often missed by many. Transforming from an authentic traditional to a modern Japanese cuisine, and introducing The Hokkiado Buffet Experience – so they say, the way to a person’s heart is through his stomach.

This a la carte buffet is sure to blow you off your feet when you experience unlimited fresh sashimi and seafood that are air-flown from Tsukiji (Japan’s famous fish market) and Sapporo twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays. Psst! Now you know which day to visit >.<

The assorted sashimi features Maguro (Tuna), Mekajiki (Swordfish), Hamachi (Yellowtail), Tako (Octopus) and Salmon.

One of the detail Hokkaido Sushi Restaurant wished to highlight were the organic high-grade Japanese Nanatsuboshi rice used in their sushi. Only a handful of restaurants serves such premium rice. We were happy to enjoy it in Hamachi Truffle - chopped yellowtail and drizzled with truffle oil, Aburi Salmon Mentaiko – seared and topped with mentaiko, Unagi and Maguro Mayo

Showcasing some of the items from the appetiser menu: Ika Geso (deep-fried squid), Pitan Tofu - silken tofu drenched in savoury century egg dressing, topped with surimi (crabstick) and fresh onions. Can’t forget the Chawamushi as well, Ikura Chawamushi is served as part of the buffet for those who fancy salmon roe.

One of the crowd pleaser on the table is the Ebi Tempura. Note: 5 pieces of these on the a la carte menu cost $30! Fret not, it’s free flow for the buffet and you might want to eat more than just one haahaa!

Other items on the buffet menu comprises of Itamemono (Stir-fried) such as Pork with Ginger, and Yakimono (Grilled) which includes Salmon Mentaiyaki (grilled salmon with spicy roe) and Gindara Shioyaki (grilled cod fish with salt).

I would like to express my thanks to Hokkaido Sushi Restaurant for hosting us in one of their four private rooms which has a balcony and a sake collection, hence the room is known as the Sake Room.

My Hokkiado Buffet Experience has been a pleasant one. Food wise were pretty decent, in fact some falls slightly below satisfactory but on the account of the free flow sashimi, that happens to be one of the freshest I’ve tasted among other hotel’s buffet, I would think the price is very worthy! Not to mention the wide variety of items to choose from. You can peek at the full ala carte buffet menu here.
