Wanderlust : Seoul, Korea (Day 6) [Hongdae - Hongik Univ, Trick Eye Museum, Hello Kitty Cafe]

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

Hongdae is the abbreviation of Hongik University. Sub culturing to a symbol of unique cultural identity among the youths in Korea. Do plan to visit on a Sunday, because that's when they have the Weekly Sunday Bazaar. Venture into the maze of shops and cafes, and getting lost haa! There is always a turn round very corner and it's pretty hard to locate the shop you first saw, so don't miss out on buying something you really like (if not map out your route, it's either you're always coming back to the same shop or will never find it again lols).

There is so many things to see and do in Hongdae that I think you may need a full day there! :D
Directions: Hongik University Station (Hongdae), Subway Line 2, exit 5.

Hongik University, the school is known for fine arts and design.

Even the Korean mascot has its own style haa!

Partly it's because of the university is located around the area thus the clothing and items caters mostly to students of that age range and prices are quite affordable, shops ranges from luxury products to local handmade clothings. Besides food, there is tons of cafes, bar and restaurants to cater to your preferences.

There's this area where they have short walls of graffiti, picture worthy!

There's another area where it's just a whole street of Italian restaurants and we had been having Korean food for quite a while, time for some Italian fare.

Off to Trick Eye Museum in Seoul.  Admission: 15,000won/adult and 12,000won/child (below 18).
Basically it's an interactive museum with 3D effects, a technique through your vision from the different angles.
(Singapore recently hit the hype and there's one right in Resorts World Sentosa)

You will definitely need this map when searching for the museum :)

Here's some really interesting ones :) Enjoy!
Oh by the way, that is a real bottle. I thought it would be more realistic to use it as prop.

"Oh I didn't see that sign right there"

We are RICH!!

Out for more food~
A mixture of fried chicken, rice cake and hashbrown with sauce.

Spotted this really huge dog!

Hello Kitty Cafe in Hongik University. Free wifi :)

It's tourists friendly with English menu beside the Korean words. Food wise tasted average, but the drinks were uniquely flavoured like black bean latte.
If you're a Hello Kitty fan then this is for you! It's cuteness overload inside, including their washroom!
