Food Hunt: Best Mango Sticky Rice in Singapore

Monday, September 09, 2013

I'm in love with MANGO STICKY RICE also known as Khao Niaow Ma Muang in Thai!! It's like heaven in your mouth, the best combination ever. If you agree with me, then this post is for you :) Instead of travelling all the way down to Thailand to have an authentic mango sticky rice, I'm searching for one in Singapore.

Porn's (Sexy Thai Food)

Owned by Singapore TV host Pornsak Prajakwit, he's a Thai too. So what better way to have someone from Thailand to sell Thai food in Singapore. Pairing the mangos with the sweet sticky rice and their dessert chef’s specialty savoury coconut milk yummm.... Perfect match!

Thai Express

The easiest access would be the Thai Express, they are located almost in every shopping malls now. I regret to say that sometimes the food there disappoints me. The mango sticky rice served was cold, including the sticky rice where you can feel the rice grains and the mango wasn't sweet. Try getting it change, it may be better.
Price: S$6.80

My personal opinion:
Food: 2.5/5

    Siam Kitchen

A causal Thai cuisine that has several outlets around Singapore shopping malls. I have been to Siam Kitchen a few times, and I personally love their sticky rice. The rice is really sticky and moist. Coconut milk was good and mango has always been sweet.

    Stickyrice

Chanced upon this jem previously located at basement of Clementi Mall, it soon closed down but I managed to find out that there's another outlet at Ang Mo Kio Hub. A very nice presentation I must say, they mix the coconut milk and mango "liquid" on the sticky rice and it tasted good.

    Bali Thai

A fusion of Balinese and Thai cuisines awaits you there. The mango sticky rice served with sweet mango and lots of coconut milk poured on top, if you are a coconut lover, you'll love this! Definitely my favourite place to go if I have a craves.

    Bangkok Jam

Under the same company with Siam Kitchen but Bangkok Jam brings you even closer to Bangkok's authentic streets food. I enjoy the food there but dislike the long wait for it to serve. Pamper yourself with this, sweetest mango ever served on mango sticky rice. The rice are chewy and do ask for more coconut milk cause it is never enough.

    Lerk Thai

A affordable Thai cuisine in the heartlands mall. Though the mango appears pale but in fact it tasted nice. If you like the sticky rice, really sticky and mashed together, this is the place to go. The staff even offered us more coconut milk when ours are finished.

    Jia Thai

"Jai" means "Heart" in Thai, Jai Thai Restaurant are very value for money and friendly for your wallet too! They cook using natural traditional herbs and spices and the taste brings you back to Bangkok. The presentation got me back to the days in Bangkok, the coconut milk tasted exactly like the ones there but tad sweeter. The mango and rice was awesome as well. Worth trying!
